What is a BDE course?

BDE stands for Beginner Driver Education. You may be eligible to reduce the time you spend at the Class G1 if you successfully complete an MTO-approved BDE course. Completing an MTO-approved BDE course such as Sarah’s Road Scholars may also provide potential insurance rate discounts. Please contact your insurance provider for insurance rates.

What Is Drivers Ed and Why Is It Important?

Driver’s Education, is a formal program that prepares would-be drivers for the road ahead by training them in necessary skills, traffic laws, and tasks are involved in driving safely. It has theoretical sessions with fairly intensive practical lessons that includes actual driving lessons. That is why Drivers Ed is valuable to students who not only want to pass the drive trial but the one who is preparing for the road challenge as the one below.

The Role of Parents in Drivers Ed

As affirmed by the drivers education participants, parents also have the responsibility of reminding the students of the lessons taught in Drivers Ed.

Provide Additional Practice

Being an excellent role model, join your teen during practice sessions as you listen and encourage them to drive more.

Set a Good Example

MODEL safe driving behavior around a young driver because teens have a tendency to mirror parent’s behavior.

Encourage Open Communication

Do not hesitate to outline obstacles which have to be faced in order to ensure your teen does not fear or misunderstand something.

Monitor Progress

Get updates on how your teen is doing and the areas that they could use some more practice.

How long after I give my G1 test can I go for G2 road test?

After 8 or 12 months with a Class G1 licence, book a road test and then take your Class G2 road test. For the Class G2 road test, a driver examiner at a DriveTest Centre will assess basic driving skills (e.g., turning left and right, stopping, parking).

If you complete a government-approved Beginner Driver Education course, you can take your Class G2 road test after just 8 months. If you do not complete one of these courses, you must practice with your G1 for a minimum of 12 months. If you are successful, you will be issued another temporary driver’s licence and will receive a Class G2 licence in the mail. If you are unsuccessful, you can try the road test again as long as your G1 licence has not expired. If your G1 licence has expired, you will have to start all over, including paying the fees.
